Guest Speaker: Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of International Trade

Minister Pierre Pettigrew outlined the major challenges facing Canada on the trade front, and indicated what the plan was for the government to make progress in resolving these challenges. The Minister emphasized the importance of continuing to grow trade especially with the United States, and noted the importance to trade as well of security concerns of a "smart border." The Minister noted that the Canadian strategy involved a multipronged approach, that included the NAFTA, the FTAA, and the WTO. The speech was followed by an animated Question and Answer period.
